Sciarid Fly Killer

Sciarid flies, also called fungus gnats, are the small black flies that run across the surface of pots and breed in wet compost, where the larvae chew young roots. Tanlin is the drench we stock to break the cycle.

About Sciarid Fly Killer

Using Tanlin

Tanlin is added to the watering in drops and kills the larvae in the medium, which is where the damage is done. Repeat with each watering for a few weeks to catch every generation. Yellow sticky traps from Pest Management catch the adults and show you when the numbers are falling.

Stop them coming back

Sciarid fly needs wet compost. Let the top of the pot dry between waterings, don't leave run-off standing in trays, and cover the surface with a layer of clay pebbles or perlite if the problem keeps returning. Nematodes from Predators are the biological option for a bad infestation.
