About Clay Pebbles & Seramis
What they're for
Clay pebbles hold no food and little water, which is the point: in a flood and drain, dripper or deep water culture system the nutrient solution flows through and the pebbles just hold the plant up and let air reach the roots. In a pot they make a drainage layer at the bottom or a dry mulch on top that keeps sciarid fly off the compost. Mixed 60/40 with coco they make the free-draining medium Autopot systems like.
Using them
Rinse the dust off before use and soak them in pH-adjusted water. After a crop, wash and reuse them; a run through a mild disinfectant makes them as good as new. Net pots for pebbles are under Pots & Trays.
