About Ducting & Ductwork
Which ducting?
Aluminium ducting is the standard: cheap, flexible and fine for short runs. Combi ducting adds a layer of PVC over the aluminium for strength and a little less noise. Acoustic ducting wraps the duct in insulation with a second outer skin, cutting the rush of moving air and the fan noise carried along the duct; Phonic Trap goes further still for the quietest rooms.
Fitting tips
Keep runs short and straight: every bend and every metre of flexible duct costs airflow. Stretch flexible duct out fully rather than leaving it bunched. Our fan and filter sizing guide allows 25 per cent for the ducting and filter. Use ducting clips or fast clamps at every joint and a wrap of metal tape to seal it. A back-draft shutter stops air and smells coming back in when the fan is off, and a bug barrier on the intake keeps insects out. Reducers let a 150mm fan meet 125mm ducting, and so on. DiffuseAir spreads the intake air around the tent instead of blowing it at one plant.
