About Propagation Lighting
Why a propagation light
Young plants want gentle, even, blue-leaning light with little heat, close above them. A big grow light is too intense and too hot. A T5 or a low-wattage LED gives seedlings and cuttings enough to grow stocky and green without stress, and runs cheaply for the 18 hours a day propagation likes.
Which one?
The Maxibright LED T5 is the modern replacement for the fluorescent T5: same shape and spread, a fraction of the power, no tubes to change. The 60cm fits a propagator or a small tent; the 120cm covers a shelf of trays. The Cosmorrow strips link together and come in a grow spectrum for propagation and a bloom spectrum for small flowering spaces. The LUMii 55W PL lamp at 6500K is the traditional CFL choice for a propagator, and the Gorilla 12W LED is the compact budget option.
Height
Hang a propagation light 20 to 30cm above the plants and raise it as they grow. If seedlings stretch, the light is too far away.
