About Plastic Plant Pots
Round or square?
Round pots are the standard for soil and coco, easy to handle and sold from small starter pots to large final pots. Square pots pack tighter on a tray or in a tent, so you fit more plants in the same footprint; the 11 litre square is a favourite for coco. Square-to-round pots have a square rim and a round base, giving the tight packing with better drainage.
Sizing up
Pot on in steps rather than in one jump: a cutting to a 1 litre pot, then 3 to 5 litres, then the final pot. A pot that's too big for the plant stays wet at the bottom and the roots suffer. Common final sizes are 11 to 15 litres in coco and 15 to 25 litres in soil.
Wash pots between crops in a horticultural disinfectant and they will last for years. Saucers and trays to catch run-off are under Garden Trays & Saucers.
