About Water Filtration
Filter or reverse osmosis?
A dechlorination filter removes chlorine, chloramine and sediment and leaves the minerals in: right for tap water that is otherwise fine, and a must before adding beneficial microbes. The number is litres per hour. Reverse osmosis strips almost everything out, so hard water starts from near zero EC and you add back only what the plants need with CalMag and the base feed. The number is litres per day, and a booster pump raises it on low mains pressure.
Bristol water
Most of the South West has hard water with a high starting EC. Growers here get the best results from RO, or from a soft-water feed. The float valve kit lets an RO unit fill a tank on its own and shut off when it's full.
Looking after it
Change the sediment and carbon pre-filters on schedule; they protect the RO membrane, which lasts for years when they are fresh.
