Description
Offering a more cost-effective and flexible alternative than silencers, Acoustic Ducting is used to reduce the noise made by ventilation fans in grow rooms and industrial areas.
Its made from a perforated inner core thats identical to our Standard Ducting but with lots of small holes punched in it - this is then wrapped in a layer of glass fibre and sealed by another layer of aluminium foil. As the air travels down the inner core the sound is let out through the holes into the glass fibre, which deadens the sound.
In practice, it reduces the noise of a fan by around 40-60% and is almost always used with fans of 150mm/6 and above although all sizes of fans benefit from its use.
Acoustic ducting is available for all fan sizes up to 315mm (12) and comes in either 5m or 10m lengths.

How to use
The inner core is the same as standard ducting but punched with small holes. As air moves along it, the sound passes out through the holes into the glass fibre, which deadens it.
It is almost always used with fans of 150 mm and above, though fans of every size are quieter with it. To fit it:
- Secure the inner core to the fan or fitting with a ducting jubilee clip.
- Pull the glass fibre and foil back over the top and hold them with a heavy-duty cable tie.
For ducting with no glass fibre, see Phonic Trap ducting.
Questions
How much quieter will my fan be?
Around 40 to 60% quieter, depending on the setup.
Is acoustic ducting cheaper than a silencer?
Yes, it is a more cost-effective and more flexible way to cut fan noise.
How do I fit it?
Clip the inner core to the fan with a jubilee clip, then pull the glass fibre and outer foil over it and secure them with a cable tie.
