MALE couplers should be purchased for joining two pieces of flexible ducting together, they sit inside the ducting.
FEMALE couples are for joining two rigid ventilation components: the flanges of fans, filters and reducers fit inside the female couplers.

How to use
To join two lengths of flexible ducting, push a male coupler into both ends and secure each end with a ducting jubilee clip.
To join rigid parts, such as a fan to a filter or a reducer, slide both flanges into a female coupler and seal the joints with heat-resistant metal tape.
