How to use
Choose the model by the size of your tank. The chiller sits outside the reservoir: a submersible pump in the tank pushes the solution through the chiller and back, so match the pump to the flow rate in the table. Hailea recommend an NJ pump for each model; the NJ2300 and NJ3000 are in our New-Jet pumps.
Keeping the solution at 18 to 21°C holds more oxygen in the water, helps nutrient uptake and helps keep Pythium (root rot) away. If your water runs cold instead, an Eheim tank heater does the opposite job. For aeration see air stones and pumps and aeration.
Questions
What water temperature should I aim for?
Between 18 and 21°C. Warmer water holds less oxygen and makes root rot (Pythium) more likely.
Which model do I need?
Go by your tank size: the model number is the tank it suits, from 100 litres (HC100A) to 500 litres (HC500A).
Do I need a separate pump?
Yes. The solution is pumped through the chiller. Each model lists a recommended pump and a flow rate range.
